BIKE FITTING AND PEDALLING EFFICIENCY ANALYSIS BY WATTBIKE

HOW MUCH FASTER AND EASIER COULD YOU CYCLE WITH THE CORRECT RIDING POSITION SET UP AND PEDALLING ACTION? WOULD AN EXTRA 10, 15 OR EVEN 29% INCREASE MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO YOU??????????

APPLIES TO YOU WHETHER YOU RIDE ROAD, MOUNTAIN OR UNICYCLE

Its a sad fact that so many people invest their hard earned money in buying a top quality bike and all the associated kit to go with it, then never actually get the best out of it due to incorrect bike set up, pedalling style, or both. Whilst certainly not getting the most enjoyment out of this, many riders risk long term injuries to their knees, lower backs and necks just by having the wrong bike set up, pedalling action and weaknesses in certain key body parts.

Whilst there are folk out there who can claim to set you up in the correct riding position by using a plumb line, tape measure and their experience alone, we prefer to let the science of the Wattbike do the talking.  The Wattbike enables us, and you to see first hand how a tweak here and there of saddle position, handlebar height etc. effects your pedalling efficiency and riding position.

Some of our clients have witnesses instant increases in forward cycling motion of as much as 60 watts once their have had their set up corrected and also been taught how to pedal correctly.

There are 3 styles of pedalling with each indicating a more efficient pedalling action than the previous:

The figure of eight (not pictured).  - Normally associated with a complete beginner to cycling who tends to be a 'stomper', having not yet learnt that pedalling involves 360 degrees of movement, not just 70 degrees of downward pushing.

The Peanut (top picture 56% average pedalling efficiency

Normally associated with an intermediate cyclist who may have been riding for years with incorrect bike set up, incorrect pedalling style or both.  In this style of pedalling the rider will be getting  dead spots at the top and bottom of each pedalling stroke, thus meaning they need to work harder, and at a higher heart rate than someone with an almost perfect pedalling action as the picture below.  Correcting these flat spots is normally quite a quick procedure and we have witnessed one client see a 25% increase as soon as his shocking incorrect bike and shoe cleat set up was corrected.

The Sausage (bottom picture 85% average pedalling efficiency)

Normally associated with an elite rider, or one that has had a near to perfect bike fitting and pedalling instruction session carried out.  This style does not come overnight and without correct riding position will likely never happen for any rider.  However once set up is correct and the rider is taught how to pedal correctly (there is an art to it, and no it does not involve pulling up on the pedals), they will normally witness huge decreases in rider fatigue during a long ride, and also notice an increase in riding speed, or maintenance of riding speed at a lower given heart rate and muscular-skeletal output.  This picture represents an average efficiency of 85% (note the 102 degree line both sides indicating perfect application of peak force on either leg). The net result of this high efficiency is a heart rate output of just 127 bpm, some 40 beats bellow lactate threshold which is key to preserving glycogen stores whilst delaying cycling induced fatigue.

Book your computer analysed bike set up and pedalling efficiency session today from just £79.00 and stop wasting any more cycling energy, or worse still risk long term injury  by not having the correct set up and pedalling style. As you can see from these 2 pictures the 27% difference in pedalling efficiency could make a major improvement to any riders cycling speed whilst decreasing the onset of rider fatigue.

What does a basic bike fit and pedalling efficiency analysis involve?

The process takes around 2.5 hours in total to complete.

It starts with a physiological analysis of your current cycling set up using a Turbo Trainer

Settings from your current bike (uncorrected) are then transferred across to the Wattbike.

You are then taken through a series of pedalling drills to access your riding style and average efficiency.

Tweaks to position are made and this exercise is repeated until you are able to get the best possible improvements during your session.

You are taught the correct method of pedalling in order to increase your efficiency further.

The corrected settings are then transferred back to your current cycle with advice given on any necessary changes to stem length etc. required.

You go away and practice/perfect your technique and witness the improvements for yourself.

The cost for this service is £79.00.  More advanced fitting including additional assessments are available to suit individual requirements/demands.
